The hiking area is located about 80 km west of Kajaani and 150 km east of Oulu. It is part of Rokua Geopark, which is included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network. More than 80 per cent of the area is water. Oulujärvi Hiking Area boasts rocky islets, gorgeous sandy beaches, crystal-clear ponds and barren pine forests.
