The Migratory Bird Game

In this outdoor game, you get to experience the life of a white wagtail as a migratory bird. You will learn about both natural and human caused challenges that birds encounter during migration. The game combines several pedagogical methods and school subjects.

The game is primarily designed for pupils in grades 5–6, but it can also be played with younger or older pupils (grades 4–9). The estimated time needed to play the game is 45 min, and it´s played in small groups in a yard or a forest.

The learning goals of the game are to:

• evoke empathy for birds and nature
• provide understanding of birds’ adaptations, behaviour, and ecological niches
• give knowledge about environmental changes that threaten birds and how they can be protected.
