On the Russian side of the border, the Friendship Nature Reserve includes the 47,500-hectare Kostomuksha Strict Nature Reserve, and on the Finnish side, the roughly 29,000-hectare Friendship Park that comprises five separate areas located in the Town of Kuhmo and the Municipality of Suomussalmi.
