Tiivistelmä

Metsähallitus’ financial statements include the financial statements and the report of the Board of Directors for 2024. The financial statements include the separate financial statements and the report of the Board of Directors for 2024 for Metsähallitus ’ public administration tasks.

Metsähallitus achieved both its financial and operational targets in 2024. Metsähallitus had a turnover totalling EUR 485.2 million and turned a profit of EUR 179.8 million. The good business result was mainly due to strong demand for and high price of timber. Business operations take into account biodiversity and recreational use, as well as safeguarding reindeer husbandry and Sámi culture. Investments in these societal benefits totaled EUR 117.1 million, of which EUR 84 million was related to safeguarding biodiversity.

A total of 6.5 million m3 of wood was harvested from state-owned multiple-use forests. The harvest volume is based on a sustainable harvesting plan, which takes into account the long-term development of forest resources and other objectives set for state forests.

Metsähallitus continued its wind power project development work in state-owned land and sea areas in 2024. In-depth nature assessments will be carried out in connection with project development.

Metsähallitus plays a significant role in safeguarding biodiversity. In 2024, restoration and nature management activities were carried out in both protected areas and multiple-use forests on a total of over 11,049 hectares. In addition, streams, fish habitats and catchment areas were restored.

A total of 8.6 million visits were made to national parks and other Metsähallitus excursion destinations, and permit customers spent over 0.5 million days hunting and fishing on state lands.

The expectations of the state regions are coordinated in regional natural resource plans, which are prepared in cooperation with stakeholders. The plan outlining the operations of the state lands of Southern Finland will be completed in spring 2025. The preparation of the natural resource plan for Lapland will begin this year.
