The Käsivarsi Wilderness Area is one of Finland’s 12 wilderness areas. Their aim is to preserve the wilderness of the area and to support the preservation of the Sámi culture, natural livelihoods and sustainable use of nature.
The Malla and Saana Fells are located in Kilpisjärvi area in the Käsivarsi region of Lapland. These special fells are protected by the Nature Conservation Act. Malla Strict Nature Reserve was established in 1938. Saana is home to two nature reserves.
Saana Fell is the most famous sight at Kilpisjärvi. The 800 km long Nordkalottleden Trail passes through Kilpisjärvi. The trail starts at Kvikkjokk in Sweden and ends in Kautokeino, Norway.
